I purchased Maple from a lady in southern Iowa in September of 2022. She had ‘rescued’ her from a kill pen in Stroud, OK. She had her for over two months and in that time Maple not only lost more weight but also got a severe case of rain rot. She kept insisting that Maple just wasn’t hungry as the horses were not touching the (moldy) round bales she had out for them. When Maple arrived her skin was covered in pockets of puss due to the rain rot and sores where her bones were starting to push through her skin. With a LOT of grooming and TLC (and dental) Maple gained over 250 lbs over the course of 5 months. I was able to track down someone that previously knew her and she told me that Maple had been used for trails mostly. Turns out she was right! Maple is spicy and a little hot headed but handled the trails well. I was also able to track down who she was and a friend tracked down a previous owner. We were able to get her papers transferred! The scars on her back legs are purely cosmetic and should have not effect on her future career. She is now living a happy, pampered life with her new forever family!
